Frequently asked questions about Nutritional Therapy

  • Functional nutrition, or functional health, is root-cause, systems-based approach to addressing health. With functional nutrition, I ask “why” an illness or symptom is occurring and “how” can we restore health and wellness. In conventional medicine, there is often a focus on a single symptom or system and oftentimes medications are used for each complaint because there isn’t the time to get to the root cause.

There is a time and place for conventional medicine as well as for prescription medications, and I intend to work in conjunction with your Primary Care Provider and be a apart of your healthcare team. My goal is to fill in the gaps of what is missing in conventional medicine with extended education, lifestyle and nutritional modifications.

I firmly believe that getting to the root cause is the most important step to addressing health. My approach is anti-diet , weight-neutral, and HAES-aligned. You’ll never be asked to step on a scale.

The technique used in the majority of my 1:1 client work is called Nutritional Therapy.

  • I specialize in helping women and female-bodied individuals in their 30s and 40s with PCOS, IBS, perimenopause symptoms, autoimmune conditions, and other inflammatory conditions.

These conditions show up in many different kinds of symptoms.

Symptoms I commonly see in my clients include bloat, constipation, IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome), diarrhea, nausea, eczema, adult acne, unexplained weight gain, infertility, irregular periods, thyroid symptoms, brain fog, migraines, headaches, pain, sleep troubles, seasonal allergies, unexplained fatigue, congestion/stuffy head, and runny nose.

Additionally, it's common for my clients to tell me they've been previously diagnosed with conditions like Interstitial Cystitis, IBS or Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Hidradenitis Suppurativa, Hashimoto's, Multiple Sclerosis, SIBO (Small Intestinal Bacteria Overgrowth), Adrenal Fatigue, Diabetes, or Pre-diabetes.

People also often seek out Nutritional Therapy to help them learn to generally eat healthy, and live a foundational healthy lifestyle, and improve their relationship with food.

That said, most labs, supplements, and nutrition counseling services may still be paid for with your FSA and HSA funds.

  • Nope! I am not licensed to prescribe. My recommendations will focus on dietary support, lifestyle support, and supplement recommendations.

In the even that a prescription medication may be useful, with your permission I can work with your Primary Care Physician or other trusted physician involved in your care to get you the best support possible.

    That is integrative care.

  • Yes!

If we both feel that working together is a great fit, then I will certainly not turn away someone due to their age alone.

If you enjoy our vibe when connecting and do not feel resistant to the information I provide in your Initial Assessment, then this work is for you, despite your age.

This is exactly why I require that all Reclaim clients start with a no-obligation Initial Assessment before committing to a program. This enables you to test the waters and decide if it feels right (or doesn’t).

  • Nope!

I most enjoy working with female-bodied individuals in their 30s and 40s, because that’s who I relate to the most.

I work with male-bodied and non-binary folx as well, when the fit feels right.

This is exactly why I require that all coaching clients start with a no-obligation Initial Assessment before committing to a coaching program. This enables you to test the waters and decide if it feels right (or doesn’t).

  • Every individual’s timeline and progress looks different based on what their body needs and their commitment level.

Regarding the Reclaim Your Health program, most, if not all clients, begin finding relief only a few weeks into the program.

It's important to remember that your symptoms did not occur overnight, and neither will your healing.

This is why I developed the Reclaim program as a 6-month program, with 3-month options for established clients.

My credentials do not restrict me to any geographical area.

All of my services are offered virtually, so seeing clients who live outside of Seattle is easy.

  • Yes!

All clients interested in enrolling in the Reclaim program, must first complete a no-obligation Initial Assessment.

All other services are provided within the context of a program, course, or package.

    Why?

Nutritional Therapy is a process that assesses bio-individual needs and addresses symptoms through lifestyle and dietary changes, as well as reconnecting with intuition.

This process takes time, consistency, and accountability. None of these components can be well applied with isolated sessions.

Individual sessions and maintenance programs are available to those who have successfully completed a full Nutritional Therapy program.

Regarding the Reclaim Your Health program, clients have three payment options: to pay in full upfront, pay in 6 monthly installments, or choose your own payment plan with Klarna.

I am able to offer an administrative discount to those who choose to pay in full up front.

For all other services, payment is required in full at the time of purchase.

This is a great health-forward use of your HSA or FSA funds.

  • Yes!! (depending on the terms of your HSA/FSA)

Many HSA/FSA policies allow the funds to be used for nutritional counseling services, supplement purchases, and lab testing services, all of which are part of a Nutritional Therapy program.

Not all HSA/FSA policies are the same. Check with the terms of your HSA/FSA policy directly to determine whether they will help you pay for the services I provide.

  • Regarding Nutritional Therapy programs, the first step is to complete a free application.

However, if you are interested in functional lab testing or online courses without committing to a program, click here to view your options (no application necessary).

  • Bottom Line: I only take clients I am confident I can help.

My job is to provide education, coaching, resources, and accountability to help you reach your goals.

As long as you are honest and forthcoming about your symptoms, diet, and lifestyle, you and I will work well together, and you will see results.

That said, if something in the program is not producing results, we dig deeper. Nutritional Therapy is fluid and adaptable to your body's needs, which will change throughout the process. That may include additional lab testing, referral to another provider, or trying a different modality.

At the heart of it, your long-term health is important to me and will always be at the forefront of the care I provide you. And although no client has ever requested a refund from me, refunds are available to those who qualify.

  • Refunds are not available due to buyer's remorse. In order to request a refund, the Client must submit proof of having attended all included Sessions and completed all Recommendations provided by the NTP, as well as evidence that all initially subjective symptoms have not improved after having implemented said Recommendations. The Client must have also requested additional coaching (on top of included sessions) regarding unimproved symptoms at least three (3) times from the NTP. Well Roots may require that the Client submit documentation, including and without limitation, any journaling or tracking completed in relation to Nutritional Therapy, and any record of additional coaching you received. This will ensure that you have maximized the resources available inside the program.

Refunds will not be given for lab testing, supplements, or any tangible items provided. Refunds requested of all services will be determined by Hilary on a case-by-case basis.

Complete terms for my refund policy will be included in a Package Agreement signed by both parties when enrolling in the Reclaim program.
